Martin Luther King, Jr. was born Michael Luther King, Jr. but later had
his name changed to Martin. In 1954, Martin Luther King became pastor
of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama.

At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have
received the Nobel Peace Prize. When he found out of this he announced that
he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the the civil rights movement.
King is the biggest reason the Civil Righs Movement worked.

Martin Luther King, was assassinated April 4th 1968. Dr King was shot dead in the southern
U.S. city of Memphis Tennessee, where he was to lead a march of worker
protesting against low wages and poor working conditions. He was shot in the neck as he
stood on a hotel balcony and died in hospital soon afterwards. Reverend Jesse Jackson
was on the balcony with Dr King when the single shot rang out.
